Phil McDonald was born in Saginaw, MI to parents Brian, an electrical engineer, and Janice, a teacher and later bank executive. The family lived briefly in Königstein im Taunus, Hesse, Germany but eventually returned to Michigan. Phil decided to pursue a career in medicine, earning his bachelor's degree in biology at Wayne State University. While living in downtown Detroit, he had the pleasure of witnessing a revitalization made possible in part by the many production companies which took advantage of the state's film incentive program. "Red Dawn," "LOL," and "Vamps" were just a few of the projects filmed outside his apartment. In the rare moments between patient care and research, Phil continues to seek out roles in this exciting industry. He graduated from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in May 2013 and is currently an Internal Medicine resident at the Detroit Medical Center. He plans to later pursue a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases.
