Jacen Sievers

Jacen Sievers is a narrative cinematographer and recent graduate from the Film School at Scottsdale Community College. Since 2011, he has shot a number of short projects of varying production levels, including Anxiety, a short dramatic horror about a child haunted by the physical manifestation of his fears, and Helsing, a dramatic deconstruction of the famed vampire hunter set in a modern era. He was also chosen by the SCC faculty to mentor cinematography students taking one of the program's most advanced courses. Having developed an interest in photography and storytelling at an early age, Jacen gravitated toward motion pictures and the art of cinematography, pursuing a college education in film starting in 2011. By 2012, he released his directorial debut, Witness, a short film of which he also shot. It won several awards at the SCC Film Festival in sound design, music composition, and the dramatic genre. Most importantly, it set the tone for a visual style that has since defined his work. Inspired by the natural beauty that characterize documentaries while drawing upon the chic and stylized sheen found in his portrait photography, Jacen views every cinematic frame as an independent photograph with its own narrative, that, when streamed together, tells a greater story.
