Rand Hubiak was born in Provo, Utah. He spent his childhood in western Pennsylvania's Oil Heritage Region until moving to California at the age of twelve, where he attended first Venado Middle School, where he first encountered a love of theatre under the guidance of drama instructor Trish Wimbrow, and then Woodbridge High School. After his first year of high school, he returned to Franklin, PA, where he continued to act in local productions and sing in local choirs and bands. He earned a B.A. in English at Penn State University, where he also earned minors is Theatre, Business Administration, Classics, and History (the last of which does not appear on his transcript because he did not complete the paperwork to petition for its inclusion in time for graduation). Primarily a singer/songwriter, he performs as The Random Hubiak and has a handful of albums and EPs under that moniker, as well as the primary force behind The General Electorate, a retro-80s synth pop concept-album band. Eric Hackler, who directed Rand in Misfire, also directed his 2014 video, "Come Undone," and his 2015 video, "Why Did You Leave Me Alone on Christmas?"
