Born in 1917 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Calvin Jefferson Frederick III graduated from the University of Oklahoma. He worked in radio for several years before and after military service during World War II. He then briefly pursued an acting career. He left radio and acting to return to school, obtaining a Ph.D. in Psychology from UCLA. He worked at Patton Hospital in San Bernadino and then held high positions at the National Institute of Mental Health in Maryland. He returned to California in the 1980s to work at the VA hospital in Westwood. He appeared in at least one other film besides Story of Sea Biscuit - Chain Lightning starring Humphrey Bogart. He died in 2012 in Pasadena, CA.
