Gus Laursen grew up in Missoula, Montana. He had always harbored an interest in acting and film making, but mostly looked at them as hobbies. In 2001, he became a member of Missoula Community Access Television (MCAT) and it was there that he met Christian Ackerman. Ackerman began production on an independent film a year later, titled 'G.R.' and cast Laursen as Detective Malloid. It was shooting this film that Laursen met his friend and frequent collaborator, Matthew Von Decker. Von Decker pitched a movie idea to Laursen, titled '23 Lies.' The two collaborated on the story, which Von Decker wrote and directed. The film unfortunately never reached mass circulation, due to having been shot on video and having a runtime of under 60 minutes. Laursen continued to work on his own projects, preferring to step behind the scenes to work on editing and directing short films and other projects.
