Jake was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in November of 1989. Starting his acting training at his high school, Pius XI, he immediately became involved in improv comedy through his high school's team and through Milwaukee's Comedy Sportz where he later began working once he turned 18. He attended the University of Southern California and graduated in 2012 with a B.A. in Theatre and a minor in Screenwriting. Throughout his tenure at USC, he was an active member of the school's oldest improv troupe, Commedus Interruptus (which includes alumni like filmmaker Jason Reitman and SNL cast members Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett). He was director of the troupe his senior year. A play that he wrote, entitled "Here's the Thing," was put on by USC's Brand New Theater group, and was later part of 2012's Hollywood Fringe Festival where it was nominated for Best Comedy. After school, he joined the sketch comedy group War Mammoth Comedy, which produces videos and web series on Youtube along with fellow Commedus Interruptus alums Brad Wergley and Thompson Aplin. He also is a member of the improv group The Holdup along with USC grads Devin Field, Hayley Huntley, Andrew Glick, and Ian Carr. The Holdup are staples of the Los Angeles indie improv scene, and were 12-time UCB Cagematch champions for three months in early 2015. He has studied improv with UCB, The Groundlings, and Comedy Sportz.
