A graduate of Yale University (BA 1980), Cambridge University (MA 1982), and the University of California at Berkeley (PhD 1988), Koerner is also an art historian teaching at Harvard University and a Senior Fellow at the Society of Fellows, Harvard. He is author of (among other books) "Caspar David Friedrich and the Subject of Landscape" (1990), "The Moment of Self-Portraiture" (1994), "The Reformation of the Image" (2004), and "Bosch and Bruegel" (2014).
