Cartel is a 1995 Turkish hip hop group that received attention and popularity in both Turkey and Germany. They were famous for pioneering the use of traditional Turkish music instruments in hip hop music. The group's album "Cartel" first appeared in Europe. Shortly, interviews were broadcasted on the MTV music channel about the band that caught the attention of the media in Europe. Cartel was the first Turkish-language project to get off the ground and often credited as the group that ignited "Oriental hip hop". Cartel members; Alper Aga, Kabus Kerim, M.Ali, Babalu, InceEfe, Olcay, Erci E. After the album, Cartel separated into three separate groups, and solo work began. In 1997, Karakan and Erci E. publish their solo albums. In 1998, Cartel met for Peter Maffay's Begegnungen album for a short while. After this project, Cartel stopped the music. In 2004, the group's first album was released again in Turkey. Coming back in 2009, Cartel said that the cause of his 15-year silences was Cartel's right to name and problems with the manager. Unlike the old group, Inceefe and Kabus Kerim are not in the group. Cartel, who staged for the first time in 2009 after a long time, performed with MaNga. After this long silence, the Cartel group released an album in February 2011 called Bugünkü Nesen Cartel'den. The guest artist Ferman Akgül and Efsun took part in the album.
