Chuck was born and raised in Nebraska and earned degrees in English, journalism and theatre from Peru State College. He worked after graduation as a stage actor, director, designer and technician before taking his first job at a weekly newspaper. He worked as a reporter, news editor, regional correspondent and managing editor for half a dozen publications in Nebraska, Kansas and Iowa for the next 15 years. It was during this time he met Lew Hunter, chairman of the screen writing department at UCLA. The two grew up 10 miles apart didn't meet until Chuck was assigned the task of writing an article about the publication of Hunter's book, Screenwriting 434. The two became friends and at Hunter's urging, Chuck wrote his first script in 2007. Encouraged by the success of that script in several contests, he kept going.
