Turkish director, screenwriter, multimedia artist Deniz Tortum was born in 1989 in Turkey. He was born and raised in Istanbul. After completing his high school education at Robert College, he studied cinema at Bard College in New York State and worked as a research assistant at the MIT Open Documentary Lab. The experimental short films "Tebbet" (2010) and "Infitar" (2011) of the young director, who lives in Tivoli, New York and studied cinema at Bard College, were screened in many festivals in Turkey and the USA. 'Zayiat' is the first feature film of the young director. He shot the "Anatolian Tour" with Can Eskinazi in 2018. Tortum's documentary "Maddenin Halleri" (Phases Of Matter) about Cerrahpasa Hospital, where his father was a surgeon, won the "Best Documentary" award at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival and the International Istanbul Film Festival after its world premiere at the 2020 International.
