Ioana Mischie is a Romanian-born cinematic storyteller, awarded for filmmaking, creative writing and interactive works and a Fulbright Grantee at USC School of Cinematic Arts, researching transmedia storytelling and mixed reality as part of her doctoral study. After graduating UNATC's storytelling-driven BA and MA, her cinematic projects as writer/director have traveled to more than 50 festivals worldwide (Palm Springs ISFF, Hamptons IFF, Thessaloniki IFF) and were developed in prestigious international programs (Berlinale Talents, Sundance Workshop in Italy, Cannes International Screenwriters Pavilion, Midpoint Central European Script Center, Cross Video Days, The Steamer Salon). Her cinematic works were awarded by the FEST New Directors New Films Pitching Forum, The Manaki Script Lab and The Steamer Salon, among others. Channel 4 commissioned her to direct two documentary series that had a record of views on the 4oD platform ("Tattoo Twists", a linear segments of the transmedia project "Mirrors of the self"), becoming during the fall of 2015 the most popular 4oD series in the UK. Collaborated with the Oscar-winning production company Legende Films for "237 years" (the short movie). Envisioning the world as a neo-creative playground, her stories tend to have humorous accents, striving to explore the bitter-sweet-ness of social themes, cultural identity and self-discovery in an eclectic world. Her artistic praxis includes as well expanded storytelling experiments such as "Texts are written by those who read them" - a transmedia installation that involves collective writemobs and "Idonee", an electronic book of participatory poetries. Most recently, she explores the intersection between experiential narratives and new technologies. Ioana collaborated with cinema-oriented articles to youth-driven cultural platforms such as Odyssey, Nisimazine, Inhale, Breaking Ground, Tojdac, Film Menu, sub25, Tataia. Initiated and coordinated numerous educational programs that constantly encourage young filmmakers to fulfill and promote their stories: National Screenwriting Alumni Pitch, CINE-RITM, MIDPOINT INTENSIVE - Bucharest, LdaVi Eastern European VR Worldbuilding Hub. Since September 2012, Ioana Mischie is the co-founder and Head of Storyscapes, a non-profit association focussing transmedia storytelling and interactive narratives. Envisioning the world as a neo-creative playground, she believes that storytellers are the "architects of the future" (Buckminster Fuller).
