Hywel Phillips

Hywel Phillips was born August 26, 1968 in Swansea, Wales, UK. He trained as a physicist, graduating from the University of Birmingham (UK) with a B.Sc. in Physics with Electronics in 1989, followed by a Ph.D. in Particle Physics. He worked as a particle physics researcher at experiments in DESY, Hamburg and at CERN in Switzerland. His interest in photography began at an early age with a roll-film toy camera with a plastic lens, developing the films in a darkroom with his father (an electrical engineer). He practiced photography as a hobby whilst working as a scientist. In 2001 he launched a fetish photography website which proved successful, allowing him to become a full-time photographer. Shortly afterwards also began making short films with early digital video systems, leading to his current role as cinematographer with digital cine systems. Married with no children, he now lives in Powys, Wales.
