James is a Detroit-based filmmaker who has spent the past 20 years as a director, producer and editor in film and television. He cut his teeth as the creator of the Emmy-nominated Rock N Roll Safari, a docuseries that profiles struggling bands and artists trying to make a name and a life for themselves. Over the next several years he collaborated with various filmmakers as a producer and editor on documentary films about Boogie Woogie piano, Detroit-based music history, urban farming in Detroit, suicide, education, stem cell therapy and other topics. In recent years he worked in television as a producer and editor on multiple PBS docuseries. His work has appeared on PBS, FOX, ESPN, CBS and at film festivals around the country and internationally. James has been immersed in this film for the past four years.
