Although a career entertaining was always a dream for Ray, he chased football and hockey first. Ray was professionally scouted as a wide receiver in football and even spoke with various teams about playing professionally as a goaltender. At one point, he almost qualified for an invite to the U.S. Bobsled team. Then, he decided it was time to go after what he was most passionate about, acting. He spent a season on MTV's Eye Spy Video as well as other projects before leaving the profession to be able to work full time and help his mother. He stepped away because it was very important to him that he not be labeled as the guy who was always turning projects down. The fire never burned out, and with the support of his family, he decided to listen to his teachers, who told him he should be a writer. He started writing scripts and appearing in commercials, comedy skits, and improv. Eventually, the scripts led to him making his first film. Along the way, he fell in love with every aspect of the industry.
