Nigel Rogers, born in Wellington, Shropshire, UK studied at King's College in Cambridge, and later in Italy and Germany. He was soon recognized as one of the leading singer in the rising Early Music movement in the 60s, since then performing in opera houses and concert seasons throughout the world. He was notably associated with the works by Claudio Monteverdi, including "L'Orfeo" in the title role, which he recorded several times. He gave numerous singing master classes and workshops at music conservatories worldwide, for early music and opera singers of all nationalities. From 1978 until his retirement he was a professor of classical singing and operatic voice coach at the Royal College of Music in London. In 1979 he founded and thereupon conducted the vocal ensemble Chiaroscuro for the performance of Italian baroque compositions. His career extended into the new century, and in 2005 he celebrated his 70th birthday with a recital at Wigmore Hall in London. He died on January 19, 2022.
