Justin Merz began his career as a feature writer when he sold, Topsiders (with Jonathan Rosenbloom) to DreamWorks in a bidding war that involved four major studios. In 2011, he adapted the classic children's book, The Boxcar Children into an animated feature which was released in 2014. The film stars Martin Sheen, J.K. Simmons, Joey King and McKenzie Foy. In March of 2016, his original screenplay, Rose Red was picked up by Walt Disney Pictures. In October of 2017, Justin's screenplay, Dorothy and Alice, was purchased by Netflix in a competitive situation that found many producers vying for the script due to its franchise potential. Dorothy and Alice was featured on both the 2017 Hitlist and Blacklist. In 2019, Justin began adapting, Dissonance by Erica O'Rourke for Strait Up Films and EMA. Justin lives in Los Angeles with his wife, daughter, cat and dog.
