Praveen Morchhale (born in India in 1968) is a film director, producer, and screenwriter recognized as part of India’s new wave cinema. After working in theater and short films, he debuted in feature filmmaking through a crowdfunded project exploring generational ties. His subsequent works consolidated a personal style grounded in realism, non-professional actors, and minimalist storytelling. Drawing inspiration from Iranian cinema, particularly Abbas Kiarostami, Morchhale focuses on human resilience and the bureaucratic and moral complexities of everyday life. His films have been screened and awarded at major international festivals, including Busan, Rotterdam, Gothenburg, and Camerimage, earning recognition for their precise visual language and reflective tone.
