She then went on to study at the Julliard School of Music for the flute where she was awarded a scholarship to their Music Advancement Program. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Tamala graduated from Manhattan College, and went on earn her MBA in Media Management/Film Studies. This afforded her the opportunity to work with Billboard Charting artists like Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Mandy Moore, and Snoop Dogg; and for mega brands such as Energizer, Vans, Photobucket, Myspace, and Eventful. But no matter what twists and turns life threw at Tamala, she never fully abandoned her dream of pursuing a career as an actress, writer and filmmaking. Even while managing her advertising career, she auditioned and was accepted into the William Esper Acting program, while also being mentored and trained privately by April Yvette Thompson, Marishka Phillips, Jack Waddell and Heidi Marshall, among others. Holding true to her roots, Tamala has starred in off-Broadway and regional productions such as, Dreamgirls (Northshore Music Theatre), Little Shop of Horrors (The Gallery Players), Hairspray (Westchester Broadway Theater), and Sunshine Boys (John Engeman Theater) before setting her eyes on the big screen. Packaging her entertainment and media experience working for the likes of Warner Brothers, Sony, Columbia and Geffen Records, Tamala has used her drive and skills to create, executive produce, co-direct, and star in her first self-written TV/web series, Bubbly Brown sugar, which has gained an outstanding social following. Bubbly Brown Sugar comes after the 2011 launch of her award-winning media platform, Soul Kisses TV, which features visionaries, celebrities and other change-agents using their position of influence for good. Guests include, Malik Yoba from New York Undercover and Empire, Terrie Williams from Essence Magazine, Fender Music Foundation, Step Up Women's Foundation, Terry Boykins of the Million Man March and others. Tamala is currently producing and acting in a SYFY film with Lavarro Jones, and is starring in the hit digital series, Curvy Girls Rock as Ivy and "the hot new digital soap opera coming to Amazon," Asunder, where she plays the powerful role of Aisha Smallwood in who is a beautiful, bright, and energetic Democratic politician running for City Council of District 4 in Manhattan. Tamala is thrilled to share Bubbly Brown Sugar with the world and co-creating with kindred spirits to generate more awareness about the project. She looks forward to thriving as an actor, writer, producer, and director in New York City and beyond. When she isn't on set or at an audition, Tamala loves creating writing screenplays and other stories, interviewing visionaries for Soul Kisses TV, meditating and extended happy hours with friends.
