Myshell Tabu

Tap dancing since the tender age of three, the classically trained actress and dancer, Myshell Tabu, has considered the stage her home for most of her life. Raised in south central Los Angeles, she has portrayed diverse roles on stage and the silver screen, from Beneatha Younger in A Raisin in the Sun to cinematic work with Sanaa Lathan and Clifton Powell. She also worked as a professional dancer and dance instructor since her adolescence. At age 11, Myshell was invited to perform an original monologue and tap solo for Bill Clinton at a White House gala. Her formal acting training began at age twelve, with Heart of Los Angeles Youth Theater, where she studied method acting with Garrett M. Brown (Kick-Ass; Sisters) for four years. Soon after, she shared the stage with Salt N' Pepa on the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards and was featured in a host of music videos. In college, Myshell journeyed behind the camera, majoring in film production at Chapman University in Orange County. She became familiar with every aspect of filmmaking, from cinematography to editing, confirming that she wanted to live in front of the camera. Prior to having her first child, Myshell completed the intermediate level of the core track at Groundlings. She subsequently booked a role as a debutante in the movie Something New (Sanaa Hamrii). Myshell receives private coaching, and recently completed a supporting role in the film, Dependent's Day, directed by Michael David Lynch. She is married and educates her two mini-actresses at home. In her spare time, she researches new developments in medicine and education and she enjoys scrap-booking. Myshell aspires to cerebral roles on shows like Grey's Anatomy, CSI and Law and Order, but is right at home in a comedy as well.
