Aswar Rahman (born March 14, 1994) is an American actor and independent filmmaker. Born in Bangladesh, Aswar immigrated to the United States at the age of 6 with his mother and sister. Raised in a poor household in Northeast Minneapolis, Aswar left high school early to relieve financial stress on his family, graduated college at the age of 19, and created a successful digital media production business and launched a filmmaking collaborative that produced eight feature films. On the night Donald Trump was elected, Aswar put filmmaking on hold to focus on defending democracy. In 2017, he ran in the race for Mayor of the City of Minneapolis, and withdrew to support the eventual winner. In 2018, he served as the Digital Director for Congressman Dean Phillips in the west metro of the Twin Cities. In 2019, he was the Digital Content Director for Senator Amy Klobuchar's Presidential Campaign. He now serves as the digital content lead for the coalition to pass the For the People Act, as well as other pro-democracy causes. Aswar's passion has always been filmmaking and acting. In 2021, he re-launched his film production program in the Twin Cities.
