Born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, Rob Friend was a professional football player for the LA Galaxy on Major League Soccer, he retired in December, 2015. At 6'5", Friend spent his career as a forward, primarily striker. Friend started playing professionally since 2003. He spent parts of his career in three of the top European leagues: the Bundesliga in Germany, the Tippeligaen in Norway, and the Eredivisie in the Netherlands. On the international stage, Friend has represented Canada on the U-20, U-23 and senior levels. He has participated in five FIFA World Cup qualification matches. Friend has played in 276 career matches and amassed 81 goals. His career-high in goals was 18 during the 2007-8 season for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga 2. Friend is married with three children. He enjoys contributing to charities related to children and social causes. He is an ambassador for ACISE-LA.
