Herbert Maneval was born in the city of Linz, Austria in July 1946. Herb's mother was a German citizen who survived the camps at Mauthausen. His father had served in the United States Army-Air Force during the invasion of Europe and was stationed in Linz. Herb moved with his family to the United States, where he lived in Maine, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Nevada and California. While living in Durango, Colorado in 1962 and working as an extra in the film "How the West Was Won," he was chosen for an uncredited speaking part as a schoolboy in the movie. His next film experience was with Dale Robertson's 1965 made-for-television production "Diamond Jim: Skulduggery in Samantha," shot just north of Durango, Colorado in the Rocky Mountains. During the latter part of the 60's, Herb involved himself in acting, theatre arts production and film directing at the University of Nevada and at Los Angeles Valley College in Van Nuys, California, where he worked with Ed Begley, Jr., Wally Androchuk, Robin Bach and many others. At Fort Lewis College at Durango, Colorado he studied play writing with Ralph Dale O'Keefe, where several of his short plays were produced. In 1969 he instructed Katharine Ross, Paul Newman and Robert Redford in the use of velocipedes for the movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," filmed largely in and around Durango, Colorado and had an uncredited part in the film. Herb Maneval resides with his wife Catherine and daughter Heidi in the Glendale, CA area just north of Los Angeles.
