Born in 1986, originally from the North East of England, Paul Joyce has previously had a career in Fashion and Photography since relocating to London in 2005, having contributed to many publications worldwide as well as holding the position of Fashion Editor at The New British 2011-2014; however after years in the business working behind the camera, 2014 saw Joyce switch his attention in front of the lens, thanks to Director Bruno Osif taking a chance on Paul in the short film "Alter" (2014), which obtained official selection at a number of Europe's film festivals, including being screened at Festival de Cannes 2014. Previously, Paul had spent most of his early years working on different productions for local theatre companies around the North East of England region, including Live Theatre's Youth Theatre in Newcastle. At the age of 11 years old, Paul was cast in the role of young Tommy in the West End production of Pete Townshend's "The Who's Tommy" during it's revival in 1997. During his teens and almost all of his 20s, Paul suffered with a range of mental illnesses, for which he spent a decade in and out of different treatments and facilities. In 2011, after a severe mental breakdown, Paul surrendered himself and became fully committed to a Personality Disorder Service in East London, which saw him embark upon an intense psychological programme that was to last over 3 years. Once Paul successfully completed his treatment in early 2015, he very quickly returned to an actor's education where he began training both privately and at the Giles Foreman Centre for Acting (GFCA), London, with short film "Dinner Alone" by Kanne Vee, released fall 2015. Paul also, together with his life partner, photographer Michal Pudelka, have began a project together entitled "sobered-up", an ongoing body of personal photo and video based work to be created together.
