Marissa Alexander is a speaker, human rights advocate, and Founder and CEO of the Marissa Alexander Justice Project. She advocates for women who survived partner violence and were criminalized for self-defense. Alexander, herself, was sentenced to 20 years for firing a single warning shot to prevent a repeat attack by her abuser. She travels the nation, sharing her story, standing in solidarity with domestic violence survivors and community leaders, and advocating for legislation and policy reform regarding violence against women, mass incarceration, and post-conviction restoration of civil rights. She is writing her first book.
