Estel Day was born in Malibu, CA and is most well known as the eccentric fashion designer and music artist of the "brand and the band", Mark and Estel. Estel is the heir to the Day Family Estate, left by her late grandparents Jan and Frank Day, co-founders of Jafra Cosmetics, a multi million dollar multi-level cosmetics company which was built by the family and later sold to the Gilette Group. In 2018 she founded the Jan & Frank Day Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that preserves the legacy and visionary spirit of Jan and Frank Day, and continues their philanthropic work to help women worldwide achieve financial independence by providing guidance, education, and support to help them reach their fullest potential. She is also the owner of the intellectual property rights of her late uncle, famous artist Jim Rumph, who was most well known for his work in ceramics and whose collectors include George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and the Disney Family. Growing up in Malibu, CA, she attended Crossroads School for the Arts and Science and continued higher studies at Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, majoring in fashion design. Following in her grandparents footsteps, Estel Day co-founded her own fashion and music label in 2005 with music artist, Mark Tango, called Mark and Estel, which became known as the "brand and the band". The duo's rocker style and fashion/music hybrid quickly became their brand signature. Their fashion line emerged in the press early on, when Mary Kate Olsen (the fashion designer of "The Row") began wearing their designs. The duo also invented the "Swing Tee" in 2005, which quickly became a staple in mainstream fashion revolutionizing the tee shirt industry. In 2009, Mark and Estel garnered further recognition when they custom made their 'Ripped & Holey Leggings' for Lady Gaga on her Fame Ball Tour. Mark and Estel's rocker chic yet incredibly comfortable silhouettes continue to count fashionistas and sporty girls as their customers, alongside music and fashion celebrities including Kendall Jenner and Kelly Osbourne. In 2013 Mark and Estel made fashion and music history as the first fashion designers ever to create and perform their own songs live on the runway during their RTW debut at Mercedes- Benz Fashion Week, New York, Lincoln Center. They shocked the fashion industry with their uninhibited music performance at the end of their show. This quickly gained them recognition at Lincoln Center and their shows became one of New York Fashion Week's most exciting and controversial fashion shows in the tents. The duo's fashion collections are created to be wearable versions of their music, and they create and perform all of the music for their runway shows.
