Known for his deep sense of lyricism and understanding of storytelling, Silvio Buchmeier is a Swiss composer based in Los Angeles. His award-winning compositions span works for narrative features, immersive experiences and documentaries. He enjoys combining the expressiveness of jazz with contemporary electronics and classical instrumentation to create intriguing and nuanced sonic terrains. 2022 took off with the premiere of I Remember It Rained at IFFR in Rotterdam. Silvio wrote the solemn and ecstatic score to the short film which stars Uly Schlesinger of HBO Generations. In 2021 he got the opportunity to produce and compose the music to the highly anticipated Immersive Experience Viva Frida Kahlo in Zurich, Switzerland. The show is set to open in Belgium shortly, with more global venues to follow. His music for the acclaimed documentary Survive was heard at IDFA in Amsterdam. A festival favorite all over, the film won the award for best short documentary at Camerimage in Poland. Earlier in the year Silvio wrote the music to Pressure Drop directed by his long-time collaborator Andreas Elsener. The thriller about eccentric author Robert Haller got selected at some of the most renowned genre film festivals, like BIFAN in South Korea or LFFF in Sweden. The same year saw his collaboration with director Scarlett Li Double Happiness screen at the prestigious Palm Springs Shortfest and Hollyshorts in Los Angeles. His music for Yerania del Orbe celebrated short film La Santera won the honor of Best original Score at the 2020 New York Cinematography Awards. That same year saw the release of Andrew McCardle's feature film It's Always Been You. Silvio co-wrote the eclectic score with genre-defining electronic artist BlankFor.ms and the duo went to win the award for Best Music Score in a Feature Film at the Global Nonviolent Film Festival 2020. His credits further include three feature length films which all have been released theatrically in Switzerland. The most recent one was Monte Iato - The Story of an Excavation directed by Andreas Elsener. Silvio is a passionate cyclist and avid follower of world affairs. He currently serves as a member of the SCL Early Career Committee alongside luminary colleagues such as Carlos Rafael Rivera (The Queen's Gambit) or Anne-Katrin Dern (Netflix' Fearless). In May 2020 he graduated from NYU with a Masters degree in Screen Scoring on a Fulbright Scholarship. He will gladly share his salad dressing recipe with anyone.
