J. Wes Ulm, MD, PhD, is one of the country's foremost polymaths, a physician-researcher as well as an award-winning singer-songwriter, novelist, actor and director, known for A Hustler's Tale (2018) and Too Far Gone (2016). He trained at Harvard Medical School and MIT after graduating summa cum laude at Duke University in chemistry and biochemistry, and finishing as valedictorian and National Merit Scholar at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia; he has an active career as a practicing doctor and medical researcher. He first achieved public celebrity with a popular 5-day run on the Jeopardy! TV quiz program in 1997 through which he qualified for its Tournament of Champions - one of the youngest in the show's history to do so from the regular show. However, his creative career began in earnest while recuperating from a severe respiratory condition, during which he wrote and published his first novel, Echoes of the Mystic Chords, in the visionary and metaphysical fiction genre. Inspired in part by ideas from his creative writing, he began his band J. Wes Ulm and Kant's Konundrum upon his recovery, releasing its first EP Tales of a Wandering Soul in 2018. His first music video, for the song "A Hustler's Tale," is one of the most acclaimed debuts by a new band, winning a total of 10 prizes on the festival circuit. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, and German, and highly proficient in several other languages.
