Valerie Simon is an actor/filmmaker born in Denver, Colorado to Amanda Phan, an entrepreneur, and Burt Simon, a math professor. Her mother is a Vietnamese immigrant and her father is American with Jewish-European decent. Valerie grew up with four older sisters and one younger brother, all who were the first generation in America after her mother immigrated during the war in the 1960's. At the age of nine, Valerie started stage acting, singing, and figuring skating. She performed various plays written by local writers and directors at a theater company known as The E-Project. During her early teenage years she began training for film. At the age of fifteen she did her first professional stage performance where she played Serena in Legally Blonde The Musical at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities. After she graduated from high school she moved to Vancouver, British Columbia where she continued writing, directing, producing, and starring in independent films. She attends the University of British Columbia where she studies in an interdisciplinary program, Religion, Literature, and the Arts with a focus in German Continental and East Asian philosophy.
