Stacey Carpenter was born in Paris, France, and moved to the States with her parents when she was two years old. After spending time in Tallahassee, Fl, and Louisville Kentucky, she finally settled down in Chicago, IL when she was 13. While in grad school earning her MFA in acting, she became best buds with Bradford Stevens. A few months before graduation, they founded Land of Misery Productions. After writing a string of one act plays, they started writing film scripts and shooting shorts. Their first short, "Walt Brother Walt" screened at the Midwest Film Festival as well as the Black Harvest Film Festival in Chicago. Stacey went on to take play writing classes at Chicago Dramatist, while studying Improv at Second City. When not writing and directing, she spends her days doing voice overs and teaching creative writing to 3rd and 4th graders in Chicago Public Schools.
