Derek Hein

Derek Wayne Hein was born on September 24, 1969, in Bad Canstatt, Stuttgart, West Germany. His father was serving in the U.S. Army at the time. He grew up in the Tacoma, Washington area, graduating from Bethel Senior High School in 1987. After attending Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, and Utah State University in Logan, Utah, he graduated from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in 2000 with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in mathematics. He is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at a university in Southern Utah. He has been married since May 8, 1992, to Paula Harris Hein, and they have five children together. He enjoys reading, vacationing as a family, and improving his effectiveness as a mathematics teacher in the classroom.
