Gerald Buckberg

Dr. Gerald D. Buckberg is a Distinguished Professor of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Buckberg's initial landmark research led to the introduction of blood cardioplegia, which is used by 85% of cardiac surgeons in the United States and 75% of surgeons worldwide. His pioneering techniques dramatically increased the safety of open heart surgeries, with over 25,000,000 patients having received blood cardioplegia treatment since he introduced it.
