British Filmmaker Dean Philips was born in North east London. He is of Caribbean background, with his father being from Trinidad and his mother Jamaican. He first showed an interest in the arts through acting at an early age, attending the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School. Fifteen years into the trade, Dean decided to leave the UK and travel the globe, which he always maintains, helped him to finally reach his spiritual centre. Once back in the UK, he discovered a love of writing directing and since then has filmed seven shorts, both here and internationally. His recent projects, 3 Taps and Tap Tap Tap have been selected for some of the film industries most prestigious festivals. After graduating from University, Philips went on to feature in various television commercials and shows, such as Casualty, Eastenders and later on The Bill. Although his breakthrough was to come through theatre, when Philips landed the role of Edgar in Shakespeare's King Lear at the Tristan Bates theatre, which then led on to a theatre production of The Whirlwind and the Storm at the Cochrane theatre, which told the story of the famous humanitarian activist, Marcus Garvey.
