Born on 17 March 1987 in Troian, Bulgaria Vladimir Iliev is a professional biathlete. He has been competing since 1997 and is a valuable member of the Bulgarian National biathlon team since 2004. Iliev won a bronze medal in the 10 km sprint at the Junior Summer World Championship in 2007 in Otepää. He participated in the Vancouver Olympics in 2010. In 2011 won a bronze medal in the mixed relay at the Universiade in Erzurum, Turkey. Managed to win another bronze medal in the sprint on a roller-skis at the 2011 Summer World Championships. During the 2012-2013 season Iliev nailed the 6th place in the sprint in Pokljuka. He won a bronze medal in the 20 km individual in the European Championship in 2015 in Otepää. Vladimir Iliev is famous for his very fast skiing and yet indecisive shooting abilities. His best career result is 8th place in the sprint and 6th place in the following pursuit during the 2015 World Championships in Kontiolahti. After the 2014-2015 ended, Iliev won a gold medal in the 10 km sprint on a roller-skies in Cheile Gradistei, Romania. A couple of days later he won a silver medal in the mixed relay event. On 12 February 2016 he registered the fastest skiing during the 12.5 m pursuit in Presque Isle, Maine, USA. Iliev placed 8th in that race.
