Sylvie Becaert

Sylvie Becaert was born on 6 September 1975 in Lille, France. She is a retired biathlete. Her first year in biathlon was 1997 and she made her World Cup debut in 1999. The highlight in her career was winning the gold medal in the 7.5 km sprint at the 2003 World Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk. Becaert competed in three Winter Olympic Games - in 2002, 2006 and 2010. She won two Olympic medals, both with the relay team - one silver in 2010 in Vancouver and one bronze in 2006 in Turin. Her personal best result from all of the Games is placing 16th in the 15 km Individual in 2002 in Salt Lake City. Sylvie Becaert participated in 7 World Championships over the years. She won a total of three medals - two gold in the sprint in 2003 and in the mixed relay in 2009; and one bronze in the relay in Pyeongchang in 2009. Becaert managed twice 5th position in the Individual in Oberhof in 2003-2004 and in the pursuit in Khanty-Mansiysk in 2002-2003. These are her personal best results from World Championships. On the World Cup tour, Becaert came 2nd three times during her career - in the sprints in Östersund and Oberhof and in the mass start in Antholz-Anterselva during the 2002-2003 season. She was 3rd twice in the sprint in Trondheim in 2008-2009 and in the mass start in Oberhof in 2002-2003. Becaert has also finished 4th three times - in the mass start in Kontiolahti in 2005-2006 and in the sprint and pursuit in Östersund in 2002-2003. Her best overall finish is 3rd in the 2002-2003 season. The successful career of the French biathlete was terminated after the 2009-2010 season when Becaert announced her retirement. Sylvie Becaert resides in Annecy le Grand-Bornand where the local stadium is named after her. She is married to Rene Laurent Vuillermoz, the also retired biathlete from the Italian team.
