Liu Xianying was born on 8 July 1977 in Jilin, China. She is a former biathlete. Her first year in biathlon was 1991 and her World Cup debut happened in 1996. Liu is known to be the most successful Chinese biathlete ever in the history of the sport. She has 4 individual podiums and 10 times finishes in the Top 10. Her best overall finish is at number 6 in the 2004-2005 season. Liu won a silver medal in the sprint at the 2005 World Championships in Hochfilzen. She placed 17th in the Individual, 5th in the sprint, 4th in the mass start and 11th in the relay. Liu participated in 4 Winter Olympic Games from 1998 until 2010. Her best individual result was 7th in the mass start in 2006 Olympics in Turin. She also scored twice a 9th position as a member of the Chinese biathlon relay in 2006 and 2010 in Vancouver. At the 2003 Asian Games in Aomori got her 3 medals - one gold in the relay, one silver in the pursuit and one bronze in the sprint event. During the 2004-2005 season, Liu got on the podium for her 2nd places in the pursuits in Hochfilzen and Ruhpolding and 3rd place in the sprint in Turin. She achieved a 4th place in the mass start in Hochfilzen. The 2007-2008 season marked a 5th place in the mass start in Oberhof and a 3rd position in the pursuit in Holmenkollen. At the 2008 World Championships in Östersund, Liu finished 16th in the Individual, 18th in the sprint, 29th in the pursuit, 7th in the mass start and 14th in the relay. In the overall she took 19th place. The Asian Games in Changchun appeared to be very successful. She claimed 4 medals - 3 gold for the Individual, sprint and relay and one silver for the pursuit. The Olympics in Vancouver were her last. She positioned 20th in the Individual, 51st in the sprint and 30th in the pursuit. Liu Xianying retired from the sport after the 2009-2010 season.
