Zdenek Vítek was born on 25 July 1977 in Vrchlabi, Czech Republic. He is a retired biathlete and current coach to the women's National team. Vítek had one of the longest sports career of a biathlete from the Czech Republic. His first year in biathlon was 1991 and he made his World Cup debut on 9 February 1997. He participated in four Winter Olympic Games from 1998 in Nagano until 2010 in Vancouver. His best results from all Games were as a member of the relay team making 5th position in 2002 in Salt Lake City. As for his individual performance, his best placing was 10th in the sprint event in 2006 in Turin. Vítek took part in 15 World Championships during his career. Sadly he won only won medal from all Championships - a bronze in the sprint in 2003 in Khanty-Mansiysk. His best personal score was twice being 7th in the 20 km Individual in Östersund in 2008 and in the mass start in 2003 in Khanty-Mansiysk. On 30 November 2000 Vítek achieved his first and only World Cup victory in the 20 km Individual in Antholz-Anterselva. He was 2nd twice in the Individual and in the pursuit in Östersund in 2002-2003. Once 3rd in the pursuit in Oberhof in 1999-2000, twice 5th in the sprints in Pokljuka and Östersund in 2006-2007 and twice 7th in the Individual and sprint in 2007-2008. Vítek retired from the sport at the end of the 2013-2014 season before the Olympics in Sochi. If he took part in them, they were going to be his 5th. He finished his career with twice being 16th in the overall in the 2000-2001 and 2002-2003.
