Born on 14 November 1988 in Mutlangen, West Germany, Simon Schempp is a professional biathlete. His first year in biathlon was 2001 and made his first World Cup appearance on 11 March 2009. Before he joined the German national team, Schempp already won 5 medals from the Junior World Championships in 2007, 2008 and 2009. His medal collection from that time consists of 2 gold in the relay events in 2007 and 2009, one silver in the pursuit in 2009 and 2 bronze in the pursuit in 2007 and the relay in 2008. After such success, Schempp joined the team and took part in his first Olympic Games in 2010 in Vancouver. He participated only in one event - the relay where placed 5th. Simon Schempp won his first gold medal since he joined the national team at the 2010 World Championships in Khanty-Mansyisk in the mixed relay. One year later, at the 2012 World Championships held in his hometown, Ruhpolding, he won a bronze medal with the relay. In the other disciplines finished 90th in the Individual, 19th in the sprint, 9th in the pursuit and 26th in the mass start. Schempp repeated his medal success during the 2013 World Championships in Nove Mesto with a bronze medal in the relay. He didn't start only in one discipline - the 20 km Individual. But in the other races, finished 28th in the sprint, 18th in the pursuit, 14th in the mass start and 13th in the mixed relay. Simon Schempp claimed his first World Cup victory in the 10 km sprint in Antholz-Anterselva on 17 January 2014. On the next day he managed to win the following 12.5 km pursuit. Since that double podium in Italy nobody doubted his potential and talent. The proof of that his 10th place in the overall finish in the 2013-2014 season. During the 2014-2015 season, Schempp scored 3 victories - in the 15 km mass start in Ruhpolding, the 10 km sprint and 12.5 km pursuit in Antholz-Anterselva for a second year in a row. At the World Championships in Kontiolahti he won a gold medal in the relay. And placed 8th in the Individual, 77th in the sprint and 8th in the mass start. He concluded the season at number 4 in the overall rankings. The 2015-2016 marked 5 World Cup victories - in the sprints in Hochfilzen, Pokljuka, Antholz-Anterselva and Khanty-Mansyisk and in the pursuit in Pokljuka. Later on Schempp won 2 silver medals in the relay and mixed relay at the World Championships in Holmenkollen. He finished the season 4th in the overall with 769 points. Aside from biathlon, Simon Schempp is a custom officer. He listed meeting with friends, going to the cinema and listening to music as his hobbies.
