He has an older brother, Jack, a tech entrepreneur in Austin, Texas, and a younger sister, Madeline, who works in the fashion merchandising industry in Jacksonville, Florida. Due to his father's career, Mason moved frequently as a child, including 5 different states and three different countries, but spent most of his childhood between San Diego, California and Lafayette, Louisiana. Mason became enamored with filmmaking at an early age, watching behind the scenes documentaries of various movies. He experimented with making short video tape movies, Vines and full fledged short films in high school in San Diego. Not knowing many actors, Mason began acting in student short films in high school believing it would make him a better director. Once in college, he developed a passion for acting on its own. A graduate of San Francisco State University's School of Cinema, Mason has acted in over a dozen short films, written a dozen more, and directed four. His most recent film, A Trip to the Store (2019), was an international production that was awarded Best Director at Indyfilmlibrary.com's 2020 awards showcase. Now living in Los Angeles, Mason works in film production, on such projects as FX's American Crime Story: Impeachment and Marvel Studio's Eternals. At the age of 23 in 2021, Mason began producing his first feature film, The Chemists (2022)
