John Paul Young

Actor | Writer
Date of birth : 07/16/1956
City of birth : Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Known by the nickname "Professor," John Paul Young showed an early interest in the performing arts, transitioning from class clown to thespian by Grade Seven. His intelligence allowed him to drift through school while focusing on theatre productions and musicals. After dropping out near the end of high school to pursue a career as a professional actor and broadcaster, Young combined his love of music and stage by writing and performing three rock musicals. He capitalized on the British Punk/New Wave movement by forming the band Cardboard Brains, originally named "Psychiatric Prison" after the Soviet Gulags. Despite his young age, he had already participated in several non-union films, including "American Knights," "Sheep Eaters," and "Cinofrenic". Although primarily an actor, Young's significant success came in the music world with the first generation punk band Cardboard Brains, which earned critical acclaim for their live performances and various "legendary" musical releases. In 1982, he was awarded the Casby Award for Most Promising Male Recording Artist. His contributions to the music scene have left a lasting impact, and he continues to be a respected figure in the industry. John Paul Young lives in seclusion in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
