Clara Allen was a first-generation American, born of Irish immigrants David and Agnes Gleason Lawrence in Sierra County, CA. She became a stage actress after her child-actress daughter Verna Felton joined a stock company in 1900. She continued to perform on stage into the 1920s, primarily in Canada, and even made the move to radio in 1930. Her acting career ended shortly thereafter, and she relocated to her native state around 1934.
