The Alva Brothers (Salvador, Guillermo, Eduardo and Carlos) always worked as a group, so it's difficult to establish which one of their films was made by whom. They began as exhibitors in 1905, associated to Enrique Rosas. In 1906, the Alvas inaugurated a very large film theater (la Academia Metropolitana) in Mexico City. They began their career as filmmakers the same year. The Alvas were devoted to docummentary shorts. One exception is El Aniversario del Fallecimiento de la Suegra de Enhart, a comedy shoot in 1912, which is preserved as the oldest Mexican comedic film.
