Montrose Morse, or "Apus Brooks" was a vaudeville veteran, having started at the age of sixteen when he was pressed into service as a comedian when a comedy act at the Miami theater he was working at lost one of its members. Apus, either with his wife, Estrellita,in a comedy dance routine, or with his longtime comedic partner Sandy "Ashes" Burns, was a standard on the TOBA (Theatre Owners Booking Association) circuit for almost fifty years. During World War II, Apus and Estrellita toured army camps in Europe and the Pacific for the USO.
