As part of the first wave of Black British TV & Film actors in the early 1960s, Tommy Ansah initially made his name via small roles in established UK TV Shows such as 'Sergeant Cork', 'The Troubleshooters' and 'Man In A Suitcase', alongside theatre parts in productions including Wole Soyinka's 'The Lion And The Jewel' (Royal Court Theatre) and Robert Lowell's 'Benito Cereno' (Mermaid Theatre). He went on to act in acclaimed movies such as 'The Bushbaby', 'Two Gentlemen Sharing' and '10 Rillington Place', eventually landing lead roles in 'His Majesty's Sergeant' and the award-winning 'Heritage Africa'. He has spent much of the last few decades residing in the United States, where he has worked as a Project Consultant & Lecturer at prestigious institutions including the Smithsonian, Howard University and Caltech. Here he draws on his background as a musician and songwriter, being a founding member of Afro-Pop group Osibisa, going on to release several solo albums as well as collaborating with luminaries such as Jazz legend Hamiet Bluiett.
