Sam Bauer is a Los Angeles-based editor with a unique talent for handling dark, complicated puzzle movies. Born and raised in Chicago, he graduated from The University of Iowa where he studied philosophy and English in the illustrious Writer's Workshop. He edited the classic film DONNIE DARKO starring Jake Gyllenhall and Drew Barrymore. This film was nominated for The Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and it was directed by Richard Kelly. Sam also edited SOUTHLAND TALES starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Sean William Scott and Justin Timberlake. This film was an Official Selection at The Cannes Film Festival and was also directed by Richard Kelly. He edited HOURS which stars the late great Paul Walker and is directed by Eric Heisserer. HOURS was an Official Selection at the SXSW Film Festival. Another film that Sam is proud of is called THE DRIFTLESS AREA starring Zooey Deschenal, Anton Yelcin, and John Hawkes. This film was directed by Zack Sluser and was in the Official Selection Tribeca Film Festival. In addition to puzzle movies, Sam is great at creating atmospheric moods in all types of films using his own original sound design. His approach to the work is to grab the audience and keep them immersed in the fantasy world. In a former life, Sam was a philosopher that liked to harass Socrates and Plato about how their ideas were not that helpful. In a future life, he develops a clean way of producing drinkable water.
