Evan Davis began performing as an actor in summer repertory theater and graduated from Washington State University's theater program in 1979. He then pursued a career in stand-up comedy. He worked in coffee houses in Seattle, Washington, then moved to San Francisco in 1980. He performed at San Francisco's Holy City Zoo, The Other Cafe, The Punchline, and Cobb's Pubb throughout the 1980's. He is the 1982 winner of The Seattle Stand-Up Comedy Competition, and as a result, appeared on the Big Laff Off on Showtime Television. This launched his career headlining comedy clubs nationally. Evan was a finalist in 1986 in San Francisco's Tenth Annual Comedy Competition (Sinbad was first place, Ellen Degeneres was second place). He was then invited to compete on the syndicated "Star Search" where he made eight appearances, finishing in second place. In Los Angeles Evan made numerous appearances on A&E's "An Evening at the Improv", the Fox network's "Comic Strip Live", and eventually made three appearances on NBC's "Tonight Show with Jay Leno". Evan was the founder and head writer for the comedy writing consortium known as "Headwriters", where he created comedy monologues for various entertainers and politicians.
