Ana María Lo Polito worked as singer and TV hostess in Panama, before relocating in the 1960s to Mexico where she appeared in films, theater and cabarets. She had a special flair for comedy, working with top Mexican stars as César Costa and Gaspar Henaine, better known as "Capulina". Her cousin, playwright Edgar Soberón Torchia, wrote a musical comedy based freely on her life, "¡Yo quiero ser artista!", which won the Panamanian national literary prize.
