Born in 1959, in Belgrade, Serbia. Since elementary school Despotovic worked intensively in the world of amateur cinema. He is included in the index of non-professional Authors of Yugoslav Cinematheque. His amateur film 'Sam sam', made in 1975, was presented on Cinematheque's grand retrospective. Since 1980 he pursued a career as a film critic in magazines such as 'Filmograf', 'Dzuboks', 'Knjizevnost' and 'Kulture Istoka'. He also co-wrote the book on famous Yugoslav director Branko Bauer. In 1983 he graduated in film and television direction from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. He won the Yugoslav federal award, 'Sedam sekretara SKOJ-a', for writing and directing the feature, Lagani povratak (1981) in 1980. His documentary series, 'Osam vekova Studenice', made for the National Broadcasting Company won Best production at the Belgrade branch of Yugoslav national television in 1986. On the Neum National Television Festival in 1987 the series won the award of Best Educational Programme. The series was also awarded with an UNESCO bond in 1989. It was released on video in Yugoslavia and abroad. After disbanding ties with National Broadcasting, Despotovic devoted himself to production of corporate-publicity features. His public relations feature 'Hemofarm 1995' that he co-wrote, directed and produced on behalf of the famous Hemofarm pharmaceutical corporation, was awarded Silver medal at the International Public Relations Video and Film Festival in Budapest in 1996. This festival is founded by International Public Relations Association.
