Truuk Doyer, or Geertruida Theodora as she was christened, was born in Hilversum, the Netherlands in 1917. She was a ballet dancer at the Amsterdam Stadstheater, where she danced with Albert Mol. Both traveled after the war on tour with the Swedish Dance Theater, under the direction of Ivo Cramér and Birgit Cullberg. During this time she became acquainted with the Norwegian dancer Hans Kjölaas, whom she later married. In Norway she joined the New Norwegian Ballet, run by her sister-in-law Gerd Kjölaas (1909-2000). Eventually she became a freelancer, and worked on several Norwegian stages. From the sixties mostly as an actress with roles at the National Theater, and in the film Line (1961). She also wrote several historical plays. Truuk Doyer died in Oslo at the age of 102 in 2020.
