Ged Clarke grew up on Tyneside and attended St Cuthbert's RC Grammar School in Newcastle. He graduated in English at Liverpool Unioversity in 1978. He worked as a newspaper journalist for the North Shields and Wallsend Weekly News before moving to the Darlington Evening Despatch in 1982. He moved to Liverpool in 1984 to work for Mercury Press Agency. He joined Granada TV as a news journalist in 1986, became a Producer at the BBC in Manchester in 1990 and turned freelance in 1994. Since then he has worked for most major broadcasters in the UK, producing and directing documentaries as well as producing many studio-based TV shows. He won RTS Awards in 2001 and 2010.
