Csoori was born of a family of peasants. He studied to become a journalist but in the early sixties he started working as a sociographer. Like Bela Bartok he wanted to preserve the rich oral literary traditions of the Hungarian countryside. As a writer he mostly wrote poetry. His writings are profoundly influenced by his passion to record what else might disappear forever. This probably also explains his interest in cinema, writing scripts.
